Anyone been to Capri?

We're going to Italy in the summer and want to tag a couple of days on the end in Capri. Is there much to do there? Would three days be too long/not long enough? We have two dds who are happy to sit by the pool and read or come on trips with us so they're no problem (11 & 16).

Also, any recommendations for hotels? Budget not really an issue (we're treating ourselves this year) but definitely not self catering.

DH and I went to Capri for our honeymoon and loved it. I wouldn't say there's loads to do but enough to keep you busy for 3-4 days (e.g. Hiking around San Michele in Anacapri, lounging by the pool, boat trip, walking around Central Capri).

We stayed at Villa San Michele in Anacapri (approx £150/night) and thought it was great. A little old fashioned, but in a charming way. Huge room, good breakfast and great location. Also obe of the cheaper places on the island. There are loads of local restaurants in the area as well that serve the best Italian food I've ever had. The Capri Palace Hotel looked amazing too but you're looking at £250+/night.

I wanted to go back this summer but DH doesn't think it's a good place for DS (3).

Also worth taking a look at Ischia. Equally lovely but probably more to do and less of a rip off. Hire scooters and buzz round the island for a couple of days. Lots of thermal springs and fumeroles in the sea (ie hot water). Nice beaches. The castle has fab views and the nun's cemetery is "interesting" Wink

I loved Ischia, we stayed near the old hill monastery that featured in Mr Ripley film. Did Capri as a day trip only.
