Hoping someone might help with some ideas for a family holiday in 2014. We have to go during peak season- August . Got 1 yr old & 5yr old.

We've done featherdown farm here in uk but also thinking of taking our tent & going camping in France for a week.

Any ideas and suggestions for a reasonable family holiday would be fabulous thanks!
Xx

We regularly go to France and spend about 1.5k over 3 weeks for 2 adults & 3 dc. We don't eat out much or go to expensive attractions but lots of sites have pools or we go to the beach. We don't book, just tour round. Sites are cheaper later on in August and easier to get into. Mid Aug it gets a bit cheaper and by last week of holidays it is sometimes half price and fairly empty - although the kids clubs usually finish by then too.

if you want to stay in the uk then we stay here It has a swimming pool, farm animals and is near the beach with a huge indoor games room. other advice would be to look at a very last minute deal (if your nerves can stand it) but this year they are likely to be few and far between due to mr goves school term time holiday rule change.

How about the Isle of Wight? We went for the first time this year with our older teenage children and wished we has taken them when they were younger, loads to do if you like a proper 'old fashioned' family holiday. We got a last minute deal in July for a lovely self catering converted boat house with a small pool, it cost £700 and slept 6. We are going back!

I would honestly go on the ferry to St Malo and go to Brittany. The Carnac area is great. Lots of camp sites and brilliant beaches. Vendee is overrated IMO.

Love French camping holidays.

I would stick to taking the short ferry crossing to save £££, DFDS is normally cheapest.

Vendee is not my favourite area either. If you don't want to drive too far, how about the Loire, about 6 hours from Calais?

We liked <a class="break-all" href="http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=www.chateau-des-marais.com/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dle%2Bchateau%2Bdes%2Bmarais%26client%3Dsafari%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D768%26bih%3D928" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this site Chateau de Marais. Pools were good and, unusually, it is walking distance to town for alternate shops / eateries.
