Ds1 is obsessed with aeroplanes and a few people have mentioned an aviation centre at Heathrow but I can't find any info for it, so would be v grateful if anyone has info about it.

Hi saadia - I'd give them a ring before you go as I know they have been closed and refurbishing for the last month or so. I'm not quite sure if they have re-opened yet.

oh thank you for that gegs73, I will check before going.

Saadia, don't know how old your ds1 is or where you are, but if Heathrow's shut, you could try Luton - no visitor centre but a very big plate glass window where you can just sit and watch take-offs and landings. Also good views from the car park. In the check-in area so you can get a cup of coffee. Ds loved it, but he was only 2 when we went. The anoraky grown-men plane spotters thought he was very cute and were giving him extra info. Car parking expensive, like all airports but obviously nothing else to pay.

Or you could try one of the aircraft museums - De Haviland one is in Herts (near Hatfield, I think) but there are others.

There's an aircraft museum at Hendon that's very good here

saadia · 23/07/2006 20:11

thanks everyone, yes I called this morning and they were shut. edam, Luton airport sounds like just what ds1 would love but is a bit too far but Hendon is reachable so that will be one of our summer hols outings - thanks for that suggestion bettythebuilder.

Come to my house - you can sit in the garden and watch the planes. My rates are very reasonable too.

suejonez · 24/07/2006 15:04

will provide jam sandwiches included in the price.

saadia · 24/07/2006 16:26

very tempting suejonez
