We have a budget of £2,000 and would like to do something special.

Any ideas?

What are you looking for? If a white Christmas is what you seek then give Scotland a miss as you cannot guarantee snow here until end Jan/February. Also the bigger celebration in Scotland is Hogmanay (New Years Eve) when Edinburgh in particular has loads going on Hogmanay

Ideally snow...but not a must. We are going to Scotland twice next year already, charity walk and commonwealth games so maybe elsewhere would be better. We love Scotland though so not ruling it out.

Cornwall? walk on the beach, Christmas day swim, ice skating at the eden project?

Ooh I would love to see the northern lights. Mega expensive though, can you do it for £2k?

Keep in mind the travel mayhem at UK airports this year on Xmas eve.

I may be biased as I'm Norwegian, but Tromsø, Oslo or Alta would be good places to go to. Alternatively, for something different, the Faeroe Islands, in Tórshavn.

Definitely Norway - somewhere I've always wanted to go. (I live in Scotland, so it wouldn't be a treat to come here for Christmas anyway Grin). What about a European city?
