Travelling light with baby and toddler - possible/experience of how not to overpack?

I love to travel light - the less I can take, the better! I even get a little kick out of it (weird, I know)! However I am about to pack for first trip with baby and toddler (previously only travelled with one child). We are taking 4 month old and 3.5 year old to South Africa for 12 days. It will be hot, and we are staying in two locations - one nature reserve (not safari) on coast and one boutique property in wine region. I was planning to take the following for the kids - is this too little or realistic?

5 x outfits for the day (each)
2 x spare outfits on plane
(so in total, 7 outfits)
1 pair PJs and 3 x night time vests for baby
one hoodie/long sleeve each
sun hat x 2 each incase we lose one!
swimwear
sandals and plimsoles for toddler
ziplock bag of very small toys each
3 small books for toddler (in hand luggage)
ipad
2 x swaddles for baby
4 x muslins
1 long babygro (for plane/return home)

I will take a couple of packs of washing tablets for emergencies and the 2 hotels we are going to also do laundry and will get nappies/wipes for me. am breastfeeding.

Thank you!!

Can they get swim nappies for you.

Sun cream

All in one sun suits
Mossie repellent
Shade for buggy

Would take extra pair pjs in case sick or nose bleed etc in night.

Have a great time

I'd add a small first aid kit with calpol, plasters etc.

I don't have any useful tips to add but I share your enjoyment in packing light!

A neatly packed suitcase with everything you need but nothing you don't is a thing of beauty Smile.

Safe travels - your list sounds good and given that it's hot you'll have far fewer bulky clothes to pack.

I should just add, having grown up in a hot country, babies often spend 90% of their time in just a nappy and a vest (not the kind with press studs at the crotch, I mean a regular vest - brightly coloured ones look very cute).

And just a nappy when it's really scorching Smile

When we went on holiday with our then just 2 year old, I packed incredibly light, just shorts and tshirts and swim things, 2 short pjs. I would say most of the time he ended up with just swim shorts on, or just nappy or nothing in the house as it was so hot for him. Great though , this time (age 3 ) I knew I could fit all his clothes into a tiny bag inside my suitcase instead of the trunki- which I found really annoying.
