What's the best sight in the world you have seen?

I'm not very well travelled but found the view of Mount Vesuvious (sp?) from the plane a week after it errupted quite something. And the climb on the motorway to the Mont Blanc tunnel (pre accident, 12 yrs ago) wonderful.

I know a retired pilot who, of all the views in the world he has seen, thinks the most amazing is the drive down Glen Docherty, 20 miles from where I live! I don't think it's very good on Google Earth. NW Scotland if you're intersted.

I was wondering what your favourite view is?

I remember seeing a beautiful sunrise one early morning whilst sat outside on a Kenyan safari park, waiting to go out on the safari. It was beautiful.

Pruni - I'm with you on Aonach Mor! Horrified by the gondola accident last week. We were on it a few weeks ago. Won't be going up there again!

Also driving over Rannoch Moor approaching Glencoe. FAB

another one for mallorca here, on a winding coastal road, close to Banyalbufar on the west coast of the island is an old watch tower which you can climb up, nothing but beautiful sea for miles and miles.....

tenalady · 18/07/2006 11:50

Not being big on architecture or great open spaces and mountains (dh is) I can honestly say I havent seen anything so beautiful that it rocked my boat. It would have to be something colourful and full of light to awaken my senses.

Sounds cheesy but i wont apologise for it, it has to be every time my ds' face is alight with excitement. OOOOOOOOOh his grin gets so wide that it almost cuts the top of his head off

Mercy · 18/07/2006 11:53

Not so much a sight but driving through the Canadian Rockies in Autumn - absolutely stunning.

Ulysees · 18/07/2006 11:53

tenalady, have you ever been to Barcelona? I say going round Barcelona on an open topped bus and seeing the amazing architecture. Gaudi is my man!!

kate100 · 18/07/2006 11:55

The night sky in the Maldives, there's no light pollutio so you can see every tiny star that's up there.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 18/07/2006 12:03

best "sight" was the stars over the great barrier reef after a night dive - we surfaced quite some distance from our boat - pitch black so no light pollution at all. was incredible.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 18/07/2006 12:03

ooh just noticed that Katy100's is similar

expatinscotland · 18/07/2006 12:04

The Scottish coastline on the ferry over from Larne. SO happy to be home!

southeastastra · 18/07/2006 12:08

germany's black forest

tenalady · 18/07/2006 12:11

Mercy, yes did Barcelona and was disappointed too. I do know what you mean about the Goudi architecture though, it maybe raised a hair on my eybrow.

cremolafoam · 18/07/2006 12:13

Sydney 2001 Olympics closing ceremony from a rooftop on the north shore. just amazing fireworks and atmosphere out of this world.

watching a school of dolphins follow the ferry i was on in the sunset going from galway to inishmor. Magic

watching the chicago Airshow from the viewing gallery of the Hancock tower in Chicago. we were so high up the planes were below us. thrilling

tenalady · 18/07/2006 12:13

The Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon on our honeymoon - I was a bit sceptical and pissed dh off before we went by saying it was just a load of rocks and cliffs, I was so wrong - it was spectacular.

cardy · 18/07/2006 12:18

Visually
Pruni - yes I;m with you. I did that except it was Port Douglas to Sydney....what a magnificent sight!

Also the view from the Christ statue over Rio.

Emotionally:
the sight of my two dds really laughing and having fun together.

FrannyandZooey · 18/07/2006 12:18

We saw the Northern Lights in the UK one year, I would bloody love to see them again and without all the background light here.

Have seen Arizona desert and Grand Canyon - impressive but a bit rocky and arid for me.

I love the British countryside where you can find bits that haven't been ruined. Couldn't pick a favourite place.
