What's the best sight in the world you have seen?

I'm not very well travelled but found the view of Mount Vesuvious (sp?) from the plane a week after it errupted quite something. And the climb on the motorway to the Mont Blanc tunnel (pre accident, 12 yrs ago) wonderful.

I know a retired pilot who, of all the views in the world he has seen, thinks the most amazing is the drive down Glen Docherty, 20 miles from where I live! I don't think it's very good on Google Earth. NW Scotland if you're intersted.

I was wondering what your favourite view is?

I'm gonna be mushy and not name places in the world, sorry. But truly the best thing I've ever seen was Lotties face as she saw her baby sister be born. She did her estatic, excited happy hands and he whole face was totally alive with the 'oh my goodness' of it all. It moves me to tears to think of it now. It was out of this world and I don't think anything will ever beat it.

Rannoch Moor - early September morning, no traffic, low lying ground mist. We had a classic "wish I had a camera to hand" moment when we had to stop the car as there was a magnificent stag middle of the road staring at us. Pure magic. Sat in silence watching this animal in total awe.

Tiny aircraft flying very low over Myanmar jungle, circling round to go into North Thailand - wow!!

Flying high over India in monsoon season and watching outrageous lightning shows and cloud formations.

reminds me of a story told by a friend. was in a twin seater flying across a sparsely populated area of oz. the aussie pilot gazed down and remarked "welcome to the GAFA" (the Great Australian Fuck All)

Flying over (I think) Lybia on a night flight and seeing sparkling lights below and millions of stars in the sky. Magical.

Beatie · 18/07/2006 13:26

I think seeing an unobscured sunrise or sunset anywhere is pretty amazing. I have seen many spectacular views in different countries but nothing stops me in my tracks and makes me stare in awe more than a beautiful sky.

eidsvold · 18/07/2006 13:34

Would love to see the Northern Lights but haven't yet.
Las Vegas strip from our hotel window a few years ago - just awesome the first time. (Not a 'natural' view but crazy none the less)

speedymama · 18/07/2006 17:04

Bryce Canyon in Utah is spectacular as is the Grand Canyon. The rustic red of Bryce Canyon really sets it apart but the vastness, depth and mesmeriing beauty of the Grand Canyon is something to behold.

The Hoover Dam is a magnificent sight. One appreciates and admires what intelligence, creativity and imagination can achieve.

Table Mountain in South Africa is wondrous. It really does look like there is a table cloth covering the mountain. To me, it provides a beautiful and platonic contrasts to the awful history of that country wrt to apartheid and how the country is now trying to embrace the natural beauty of all its people in order to move forward.

Jamaica, where my family originate, is simply beautiful.

curtaintwitcher · 18/07/2006 17:09
