Cherbourg, how far to walk into town from the ferry?

Going to Cherbourg for the day tomorrow and am going as a foot passenger.

I seem to remember that the town is about 20/30 minutes walk from the ferry terminal. Is my memory correct or is it a lot further, anyone know? Prob won't bother with a taxi because of pushchairs etc (2 babies) and the shuttle bus is out of action apparently.

I don't know Cherbourg terribly well DelGirl but a quick peep on viamichelin.com suggests it is about 20 mins but that some of that walk might be down busy urban through routes...
Norty of them to just not bother with the shuttle bus...do they not have spares or garages in Cherbourg then

thanks Marina . Yes, I remember that some of it is down very picturesque dual carriageway . It does have pavements though
