Attingham Park - NT property with nice kids play area. I sometimes meet my mum and dad there with my children, we are in Cheshire and they are in Herefordshire so its about half way I think? (its in Shrewsbury)

This might well be too late for you - but Telford Town Park would be great. Don't let the Telford bit put you off - the park is great! It's brilliant for a picnic and there's loads of play equipment - the usual swings and climbing frames plus toddlers' playground, small lake, sandpit and funfair.
There's also Wonderland, which is a sort of nursery-rhyme village with little cottages, characters etc. and it's inside Town Park. Town Park is free, but you have to pay for Wonderland - I think it's about £25 for a family for the day. Parking is fairly cheap and certainly plentiful and Telford is really easy to get to. I'm in North Shropshire (almost S Cheshire, really), and it takes me 40 mins door-to-door. Nuneaton would be slightly longer, perhaps an hour?
