Trying to arrange a holiday to Sri Lanka for over Xmas at fairly short notice - does anyone have any recommendations of the best places to go/stay/things to do??

Thanks!

We did a tour for our honeymoon 20 years ago and loved Sri Lanka. We started at Colombo then went south round the coast to Galle and then stayed over night in Hambantota. Then up through the tea plantations to Nuwara Eliya and stayed at the Hill Club. Then on to Kandy and to Temple of the Tooth and Botanic Gardens and also saw firewalking and traditional dancing. We then climbed the Sigirya rock and visited the Temples at Polonnaruwa and went on a safari in a nature reserve.
We had two weeks in the Maldives to start with followed by the week touring Sri Lanka.
We went with Kuoni and did a custom tour. We shared a small minibus with one other couple and had a lovely informative driver who would take us off the beaten track to see something he thought we would like ie taking us to a turtle sanctuary or to a library where there was some fascinating blood thirsty cave paintings of hell.

Have a look at www.ramblersholidays.co.uk/page/sri-lanka-walking-holidays. Might not be what you're after but they are great holidays and their plans might give you ideas.

Hi we have been to Sri Lanka twice this year as we loved it so much.
We used a company called Genuine Srilankans and our driver was called Koshala. We paid around £600 for the car/driver/fuel and his accommodation for 3 weeks. Our flights were £500 each and we booked our accommodation on www.booking.com which was cheaper then booking direct. You must go to the Triangle for about 2/3 nights then on to Kandy 2 nights then onto the coast. We stayed in a hotel called Turtle Bay Hotel £95 double H/B we loved it and we also love Galle Fort. Yala for safaris but can get crowded we enjoyed Wilpattu National Park more (2 leopards)
PM me if you want help putting a trip together. Accommodation does book out quickly for xmas.
