ah good for you! when were you last out there?

how are you? i havent seen you on here for ages?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 15:43

We left at the end of April 2000 and haven't been back since .

My parents are financing most of the trip for us as they've just had a very large cheque from a family friend's son's will.

well at least your parents arespending the money on something that will benefit their family!

You go and enjoy yourselves. i dont know everything that has gone on but have followed yr threads and know you havent had it easy

go and have fun !!!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 16:06

It's wierd to think that only 1yr ago I was feeding the 4 of us on £15 a week, and we looked like we'd loose the house, now we're ontop of our debts (still a long way to go but they're under control) and we'll even have £1000 to put towards the trip of our own money

sweetmonkey · 07/07/2006 16:11

that is excellent news. i really am so pleased for you. (i know that prob sounds daft as i dont know you)

its just great things are more positive!!!!!!

DS's didn't know about the plan until today when they heard me talking on the phone to DH telling him the flights were booked.

DS1 started jumping up and down and getting really excited saying "are we going on a plane" (you bet we are boy LOL).

Furthest they've been from home is Cornwall - so this will be quite an adventure for them.

Planning to go up to Victoria Falls while we're there (that'll be fun - a 10-12hr drive) - last time we went there we had a borrowed car which had a tyre blow out and then completely broke down in the middle of knowwhere (literally) so this time we're opting for a sturdy 4x4 proper hire car - not taking that risk again with the kids in tow.

How long are you going for? Sounds great...

hulababy · 07/07/2006 17:37

Great Have fun!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 17:38

2 weeks - flying out on the 17th (arriving 18th) August and flying back home on the 1st September.

Will be staying with (and visiting) DH's family for most of the visit, but have included a few days 'holiday' for the 4 of us too.

Nathanmum · 07/07/2006 17:40

Sounds perfect - we can compare flight notes after!!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 17:44

what time of day is your flight - the 'long' flights are overnight ones - arriving 7(ish) in the morning, so shouldn't be too bad. But I'm just hoping we can keep them occupied for 5hrs in Jo'burg airport on the stopovers!

That'll be lovely for you QoQ. Dh hasn't been able to return to Zim since he left in 1990! Mainly for financial reasons. We'd love to go some time and I know he'd love to show me where he grew up. Hope you have a fab time.

Nathanmum · 07/07/2006 18:08

We leave here at 430pm, overnight to UK, but land at 630am which will feel like 130am -AAHHH!!
Coming back it's daytime, which is normally the worse one as they have to be kept occupied so much!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 18:08

DH's dad is really excited - well all of his family are - apart from his two older sisters and some distantt cousins we haven't seen any of them since we left. And of course that means that "Sekuru" (grandad) has never seen his two youngest grandsons - and they're the only boys in the family so far in their generation who'll continue the 'tribe' (as DH's cousin said this morning) with my FIL's surname

Pierre · 07/07/2006 20:20

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 20:21

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 20:24

who did you used to be Apronstrings? Haven't been on here for a few months........

OP posts:
apronstrings · 07/07/2006 20:32

rather boringly ukmum4 - but I haven't been postong for long - I have seen people welcoming you back but not sure I was here when you were. I am clearly having a sentimental day - prob because we will go for a holiday to england in August and it will be the first time many of my family have seen dd2 who was born out here

sorry if i cut into a thread of longterm friends!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 07/07/2006 20:39

not at all apronstrings, just wondered if you were one of the many that 'supported' me last year when we were having such a terrible time.

It's a wonderful feeling knowing that this time in 6 weeks we'll have arrived and be relaxing with his family
