ds's passport expires Aug 28th . We go away July 13th for two weeks and then early august. Both times back before Aug 28th but someone said you need 6 months on your passort. Is this right?

Been trying to get thro to BA but will be waiting till Xmas for an answer. Anyone out there know the legalities?

I think it depends which country you're travelling to..the States demands longer on it iirc than other countries.

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 18:00

often depends where you are going

some countries insist on it

phillip · 06/07/2006 18:02

according to this some countries require six months longer than the stay to be on your passport

carrie i'd ring the passport office now to get an appointment for a renewal for his passport, i had a shockingly bad experience over passports, i wouldn't risk it tbh

foxinsocks · 06/07/2006 18:07

where are you going?

I would prob also renew it - if his looks have changed alot (so if it was a baby passport and he's now a child) you'll need to get photos done aswell

iirc most of Europe is fine but beyond and non EU variable.

A travel agent should have a book listing every country in the world and how long your passport has to be valid to enter each country. This depends on your nationality but this is listed too. Sorry, forgotten what hte book is called..

think you should be fine with EU

(if your trip is cutting it fine with the dates, it might be better to get a renewal just in case of any emergency)

For both Italy and Spain requirements, according to Worldtravelguide.net, are

"Passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay required by all except:
(a) 1. EU/EEA nationals (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and Swiss nationals holding a valid national ID card "
