hong kong disney - has anyone been?

We have booked flights to Australia for October with a 1-night stopover in Hong Kong on the way back to go to HK Disney. Can anyone tell me about the hotels at the theme park: Is the expensive one worth it? Are the balcony rooms safe for a 2 year old, ie, are the door locks up high? Is it better to book through an agent? I have heard that there are special deals such as free breakfast, but I can't find any on the net.

Oooh. Good questions. We drove past it on our stopover to Hong Kong a week or so before it opened.

I'd love to hear of people's experiences too so we can pay a visit if it's good. I'm hoping to fly back to the UK this month, which will involve a stopover.

oooooo are you going back arfy? How long for, how do you feel about it, which will be your first sho you go to?

park.hongkongdisneyland.com/hkdl/en_US/home/home?name=HomePage

This is the English version of the HK Disneyland website featuring both the park and the hotels.

I'm trying to SW. Nothing booked yet, life would be too simple if I had more than 3 days notice to fly around the world.

Oooh, but if I do go, rest assured, there will be a shopping planning thread, a how do I cope with my mother thread, a logistics thread, a phenergan thread and a jetlag thread.

OMG,can't believe anyone would go to HK to visit Disney!!!
I'd be in the nearest retaurant gorging before you could say 'Welcome'

I was in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago and mentioned Hong Kong Disney to a couple of ex-pat colleagues there (I think we'd just driven past the sign in the car). Their view was that it was dire and very tacky. That's only one view and from people who wouldn't be enthusiastic adherents of any Disney park, but I think it's worth checking it out.

Issymum · 04/07/2006 08:43

Very mixed reviews on TripAdvisor of which this one is my the most outrageous ! My colleagues said that HK Disneyland is predominantly visited by people from mainland China, some of whom may different expectations of behaviour in a public park, hence the shock of the Seattle visitor.

arfishymeau · 04/07/2006 09:11

LOL at the horrified poster! The outrage!

Moondog, if we went, it would be because we were there, absolutely, categorically not a special trip. Heavens no!

When I was in HK on my own with DD last time I was a bit stuck for things to do, so it would be a good time filler for us.

I think on balance though we might push for singapore.

zippitippitoes · 04/07/2006 09:14

gosh issymum interesting view...I would like to read the same person comment on say the London underground and Alton Towers just to check!

I shall ask ds if he's been later he goes to Honk Kong regularly but he hasn't mentioned it as far as i recall.

Wow, no one has ever asked my opinion on lu before. It sucks. I have never been to AT. We have no plans to, but never say never.

DH is grew up in HK but hasn't been back for a decade or so. We have a 3 night stopover on the way over, which will be spent in town. I don't believe in long haul without an overnight stop. The HK airport hotel is really expensive and has shite reviews, so started looking around at other options. Disney happens to be 10 mins from the airport. I never had any desire to go to a Disney before but now anything that might put a smile on my sweet DD's face in the midst of long haul hell is alright by me. So that's how it came to be...

Maybe it was the Seattle person whose opinions were wanted on LUL and AT. Oh well, you have mine!

We are doing a Hong Kong stop over in the New Year which is what dh wants so I will take our 2 who have never been to anything vaguely theme parkish to disney so they feel we are taking them into account. It will make them laugh. I had already read the reviewsw on trip adviser so am prepared
