It would cut costs but you would spend longer travelling than you would have there.

pointless imo. loads of travelling for just a couple of hours. you might as well just stay in the UK and go to another theme park here. the longer you stay the cheaper the day tickets. go for accommodation on the train line in say an hour away but really if you want to try and do it in a day just forget it. research the train route on line and I am sure you will find a bucket hotel an hour or so away. others have done it this way and its been fine. what about LEGOLAND, Thorpe park, some of the zoo's?
