What to do on the Isle of Wight in October?

Thinking of a day trip (possibly mid-week). DS is 8 - we've been to Alum Bay, the Needles but what else?

Hovercraft over! Then underground/steam train around? You can get a road train from/to Sandown and Shanklin town/pier/station/chine during the summer.
