Where is hot but not too hot in August?

Thinking about next year's holiday.
We are a bit stuck because DH doesn't tolerate the heat well - we really don't want the temperature to go much above 26-27, which rules out a lot of places in August.

We're also wanting somewhere we could get to the beach but would also places of interest/things to do that weren't just beach based.
Does anyone have any suggestions? DC will be 10 and 8.

We had a week in Lake Garda at the end of August and the temperature was hovering around 30 degrees most days, one day we hit 33 degrees.
