Pollenca or Puerto Pollenca?

We are looking at a week in either of the above (or surrounding countryside on your recommendation!) in the first week of October. Any advice on which would be the better place to stay? We have a 14 month old and would like a private villa with pool but ideally with a little bit of stuff we can walk to. We will be hiring a car but have read parking might be a problem in either area? Also wondering if it is possible to walk in from the surrounding countryside or is it busy roads/no pavements? Thank you Mumsnetters!

Old town Pollenca is lovely for walking around and for sitting in the square for a meal/drink/atmosphere ,Puerto Pollenca also has some nice restaurants but slightly more touristy ones too, a beach and the Pine walk for strolls with the buggy. If you are hiring a car though I would just stay in the Pollenca area and go to both only 10 min drive.
What I will say however is in October you will need a heated pool as it will be too cold for swimming in especially for the 14th. Really nice area -very Jealous !

Sorry -especially for the 14 month baby -was what that was supposed to say.

Sorry forgot to say -Parking no prob in Puerto Pollenca ,Pollenca a bit trickier -you park on outskirts of square and walk in (2mins) fine for visits maybe a pain if you are staying within Pollenca but not a deal breaker I wouldn't think.

This is so helpful, thank you! Also seems to be more choice of villas and houses as opposed to apparents in Pollenca. Thank you! Heated pool is a good idea. Sometimes I feel like I spend longer deciding on a holiday that I do actually on it!

Oh yes -but that is part of the fun.
we normally use holidaylettings/owners direct for villas but when we have been to Mallorca we have used villaparade a couple of times -they specialise in Pollenca area villas and apartments-worth a look.

We've done villas in Pollenca and also stayed in Puerto Pollenca in July this year. Parking is no problem in Puerto Pollenca - can you imagine being able to park anywhere near a beach in the UK for free?!

If you get a villa which is listed in the brochure as 'Pollenca,' just check the location as all the ones we stayed in in the area were pretty rural and you couldn't really walk to anything much.

Top tip if you're into cycling - Tolo's Pizzeria on the seafront has one of Bradley Wiggin's bikes and some of his jerseys from Tour de France. If you're lucky (we were), you may also spot the man himself in there Grin

Magenta we have booked a fab villa from the villaparade website you recommended, thank you so much! It's just on the outskirts of pollenca, has parking and a pool (not heated but nice to look at and dip toes in!) It is 5 bed which seems a bit mad but the price was heavily reduced so was the same as an apartment we were looking at in PP. Can Vollante is the name if you're interested. Can't wait! 2mad boys, we're not really into cycling but love a good pizza! Yes I don't know why I feel we should to be able to park easily, we live in central Winchester and parking is warfare! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!

Looks good-Like the outside eating area. It is a lovely part of Mallorca-enjoy!
Ps there is a Market in Pollenca old town square every Sunday morning which is always nice for a walk around lots of bread, olives, sweets etc.
