Don't think it opens till next year.

It only becomes a Holiday Village for next year but the hotel as it is now was nice when I went a few years ago. I'm looking at it too for next year, but peering towards the Rhodes one instead.

lambanana · 29/08/2013 09:15

Rhodes looks lovely, we went to Majorca HV this year and it was fabulous.

clottedcreamteaplease · 29/08/2013 14:11

How is a HV different from a normal hotel, never done one before

We went to the one in Spain a few years ago and didn't enjoy it. Does anyone know how the others compare? Have seen a good deal for hv Turkey next year.

Holiday Villages are a brand that First Choice run. They are all-inclusive hotel complexes that can be found in short and mid-haul destinations from the Canaries to Egypt. They all feature the same things - kids clubs that run from 10am until 11pm, swimming and football lessons, similar entertainment programmes. There are activities going on all day, and the hotels are flooded with UK staff that work bl**dy hard to keep everyone happy. In particular, there are family activities going on all the time. The hotels are largely booked out through FC so 98% of guests are British. You can expect orderly queues at the bar, no smoking in restaurants but lots of 5:30am sunbed reservation.

They are a bit like marmite - you either love or hate them. Many people describe them as 'Butlins in the sun' and that's exactly what they are (but better food). My kids absolutely love them, and that's what makes them an ideal holiday for us. If it was just me and hubby, I wouldn't go near one with a barge pole.

We have been to the HVs in Rhodes and Turkey. To be very frankly honest, I cannot see why Rhodes commands such high prices and TA ratings. There are aspects of both hotels that are better than the other, but I think Turkey offers a better package in general - plus the opportunity to 'escape' to a quiet bar or pool if it all gets too much.

HV Ibiza hasn't opened yet - it is currently operating as a Sirenis Club hotel. It won't be an HV until next year.

cazza2878 · 25/01/2014 07:16

I've booked for August, looks fab - excited!

LoreleisSecret · 25/01/2014 08:05

We are going in May! Can't wait Smile

salvadory · 25/01/2014 08:51

Can I ask what you paid, or is that too cheeky? Looking online the cheapest I can find is over 4k.

Waggamamma · 25/01/2014 10:07

We're going in May too. It was around £1100 for me and dp (£550 each) and ds got a free child place.

Can't wait for a bit of sun!

ilovepowerhoop · 25/01/2014 10:13

we have been to a few of them - twice to the one in Tunisia. We are trying out the Tenerife one this year as friends had been there 2 years in a row and enjoyed it. Cost us just over £3K as we got a free child place. Rhodes is expensive so we never considered that one.

cazza2878 · 26/01/2014 07:14

We are going last week in August and cost us £2160 for 2 adults and a 6 year old (think price drops right at end of school hols, we fly back day before dd goes back to school).

Nomorepeppapig · 26/01/2014 07:35

Nothing wrong with the food at butlins! :)

Theonlyoneiknow · 27/01/2014 22:02

What's the weather like in May?

Waggamamma · 28/01/2014 07:34

It's slightly cooler in May which is partly why we chose to go then 18-24. But mostly sits around 21 I think.

Theonlyoneiknow · 28/01/2014 09:11

Are the Thom

Theonlyoneiknow · 28/01/2014 09:12

Is the Thomson and First Choice hôtel there the same place? It looks like the same hôtel?

ilovepowerhoop · 28/01/2014 09:42

Thomson and First Choice are the same company

Theonlyoneiknow · 28/01/2014 12:39

Am very tempted by this in May, swither swither.

Is there much to do in Ibiza? Not sure if I could stay in the resort for 2 weeks!

Waggamamma · 28/01/2014 12:43

beautiful scenery, walks and boat trips to nearby islands. old town is supposed to be wonderful too. we will stay away from party town.

wobytide · 29/01/2014 10:23

The Thomson hotel is the Sirenis Aura, the First Choice HV was the Sirenis Seaview. Different hotels but next to each other and share the waterpark. Last year they were still treated as separate and you couldn't use the facilities at the other for example. Imagine that will still be the same as they run them as different brands.

hulahoopsilove · 30/01/2014 11:17

people who are going in May which airport did you book Im struggling to get one at a decent price

Theonlyoneiknow · 30/01/2014 11:25
