Cleaning as part of contract

Leving our gîte this weekend and have only now stupidly deciphered the contract. Seems there will be a ?40 charge if we don't clean so DH is wanting to do it. We'd never leave the place in a state but am wondering hiw 'deep' to clean the place? Owners aren't around to ask and their English and our French will confuse us further.

All crockery washed and placed back as found.
Dishwasher emptied and rinsed.
Countertops cleaned, everything placed away.
Bins emptied, refuse sorted.
All towels washed and dried, folded and replaced.
Surfaced dusted wet-wiped cos I can't find polish
Floors swept and hopefully mopped if I can find said mop.
Bathrooms disinfected etc

Bedsheets? I wont have time to wash and dry these....

What do you all think?

Sounds fine to me, maybe strip the beds.

Oh yeah, no probs, I'll do that too.

Thanks cathpip.

That is easily enough. We have been renting gites for years and it is normal to be expected to clean up when you leave but by the sound of it you have done more than enough.

Oh thanks 5foot5 - thats v reassuring to hear.

I think you have covered it.

I always check the fridge is clean, once emptied.

That sounds about what we do (minus the towel washing but I do strip the beds) when we self-cater in France and we've never been charged/fined. I think they say it to cover themselves against the sort of people who'd leave a sinkful of dirty washing up and rubbish everywhere. However much you clean it, I'm pretty sure they send in cleaners to prettify it all, ready for subsequent renters.

We are sc in France and our list for cleaning at the end of our rental includes defrosting the fridge and leaving it turned off with the door open.
