Dartmouth Castle is great. Crabbing on Brixham harbour, Paignton Zoo is great but Paignton itself is pretty grim. We caught the steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth, great fun. Berryhead cliffs in Brixham, great walk and if warm enough(!!) the outdoor sea pool, freezing! Salcombe is fab. We took DDs horse riding, google local stables. Have a great time.

Totnes is a nice pretty alternative town, with another steam railway and some nice cafes. Dartmoor is fantastic for walking and scrambling around. Getting up there can take a while in the summer holidays, though, too much traffic for the roads.

Burgh Island at Bigbury as featured in Poirot.

Buckfast Butterfly Farm & Dartmoor Otter Santuary

Boat trip from Torquay - we saw dolphins

Stream railway to Dartmouth from Paignton

We went to Paignton last week.
Agree it's a bit grim..

Paignton zoo was good & advisable to book online so you walk past the queue.
We were near splashdown water slide place which your age kids would love.
My nephew & niece 12 & 8 loved it but too big for the 5 yr olds

Went to Salcombe for an avo last year & that was lovely for mooching around.

Have a lovely time

Get the boat up from Dartmouth to Dittisham and visit Agatha Christies house

Berry Head in Brixham for bird and dolphin spotting

Quay West and Woodlands are great for the kids

Breakwater cafe in Brixham has lovely views and is kid friendly

oh yes! I forgot Totnes is lovely. Tea at The Victoria Tea Rooms is essential. Absolutely amazing! We stayed in Bigbury and Burgh Island is really interesting to visit.
