Holiday deposit

We've paid in full for our holiday in a rented house in France using Paypal but need to put down a security/damages deposit in Euros. Getting a Eurocheque made up will incur a fee - does anyone know how we can put down a deposit that is the equivalent to writing a cheque which can be torn up when we leave rather than having to transfer the money?

In my experience, you either transfer the money in advance and then they give it back after, or give them the money in cash on arrival.

Thank you Portofino. It's 1000 Euros so let's hope they don't run off with it!
