We are planning to go to France in the summer hols by car with our 5 children , youngest 9 montnhs to stay in a villa or chateaux type place iwht private pool.

We would like to stay somewhere nearish to a ferry point ( within 2 hours max) and with reasonably quiet beaches - don't want a torquay styple resort but not too cut off in case of emergencies. Can anyone recommend a suitable place? I reckon it will be Normandy but that area seems so huge I have no idea whereabouts within Normanday.

Thanks everyone

we have booked a 4 bedroom converted chapel in the grounds of chateau de fretay in britanny. It has its own private pool, plus there are other pools on site. the website is about 5 years out of date, but the owners are helpful and there are activities for the children. It is inland and we are next to one of the lakes in the grounds where you can fish from. it all sounds very civilised and not too "mad"! It is about 40 miles from st. malo, so (hopefully) only about 2 - 3 hours from roscoff

We went Brittany last year and had a fantastic time. Beaches were great, not a kiss me quick or a stick of rock in sight!! Never been to Normandy so unable to comment.
