European Roadtrip - Anyone done it?!

Fiance and I are considering choosing a slightly unusual honeymoon following our wedding next year and doing a road trip through western Europe. We're on the UK south coast, so fairly easy to get a ferry/the tunnel into France. We really want to see Berlin, and he is keen to see Switzerland and Austria, while I would love to see some of Italy.

I've never done anything like this before, and would love some advice! We've just come back from holiday in Germany and really enjoyed driving over there, pleasantly surprised by how easy it was! We're planning on taking our car and packing it with camping gear so that we're prepared if there's any surprise stopovers! Has anyone done it and do you have any tips? Any useful websites etc? TIA

Off out shortly so will keep this short!

I have been on a couple of road trips. Travelled through France, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Germany and the Czech Republic. Thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to do Italy too next time. The Furka Pass in Switzerland is well worth it - you can walk through a glacier, plus we followed the Rhine (lovely views at Lorelei), went to a Concentration Camp (?), very moving and lots of other beautiful places. A word of advice, you have to purchase a pass to drive in Switzerland (purchase at the border), and also one to drive in Czech Republic (no obvious signs but if the traffic police spot you without one you get fined). Make sure you also have European Road Cover (our car starter motor went and we had to be towed to a garage for repair).

Hope you have a great time and a wonderful wedding!
