Anyone been to Sardinia? And with kids?

We are thinking of booking a week's hols in Sardinia (possibly) first week of September. Our boys are 4, 2 and 1.
We want to stay in a villa close(ish) to a beach and with swimming pool
Thoughts on Sardinia please? Recommendations? Good for travel with kids? We have just come back from a week in Provence that felt like a Year in Provence Grin (not kid-friendly enough for us)
Ta ladies (and gents)!

Stayed at a fantastic hotel called Cala di Volpe on Costa Smerelda but without the children (it was a free w/e - they shot some scenes from The Spy Who Loved Me there so couldn't have paid otherwise! We did say we'd love to go back with the kids. I know of Italian families who love it. Very child friendly (being Italy) and beautiful.

Went to Sardinia a few years back, before ds, and stayed on the costa smerelda in a villa.

Things to note about sardinia is that whilst it is part of Italy, it isn't very italian, it has its own culture so if you're in love with italy (like us) don't go there thinking that you're going to get the usual italian holiday experience. Also, they have a huge water problem and the water is oftened turned off through the day.

Not one of my favourite places to visit, Corsica was better.

We have had several fantastic holidays at Forte Village. Bloody expensive though - but brilliant for kids, with loads to do.
