Cheap overseas holiday in August

Hello,
I'm looking for a shorthaul holiday for me, DH & DS (6 years old). Everyone is telling that I can find a holiday for £1.5k for the three of us.... I've looked on expedia, lastminute and teletext but can't find a holiday for under £1.5k for the three of us. Our travel dates are 23 aug-1 sept.

Am I missing a trick?

www.skyscanner.net to find the cheapest flights. You can put in your dates and leave the destination blank so it shows everywhere in price order. Then owners direct or www.holidayrentals.co.uk to find accommodation. Or www.booking.com if you prefer not to self cater.

First Choice also seem to have some last minute bargains.

Cheap flights and self catering via online sites are the way I do it. £1,400 for four of us for 12 nights in Spain 22 Aug - 3 Sep. Self catering so food on top of that, we will eat out quite a bit but you don't have to - which would keep costs down.

Loads of availability on icelolly.com but where are you wanting to fly from? Self catering or B&B etc?

Fluffy1234 · 02/08/2013 14:41

I use Travel Republic as I find it offers value for money holidays. It's the flights that cost the most so try and avoid weekend flights.

Thanks for all of your replies.
I'm not bothered where we go as long as it involves a plane! My 6 year old DS has never been on a plane and he is really keen to have a holiday via a plane.
I am based in the south east, so any London airport, preferably Gatwick as it's 10 miles from where I live.
Thanks for all of your suggestions, I'll check them out now.

On icelolly you can get Majorca on 23 August from fat wick in a 4 star from around £380 self catering up to £450 all inclusive.

Fat wick! Gatwick.

Greece is good value. We got a cheap deal with Thomas Cook for that exact time period. Look at Zante, Rhodes and Corfu for the best value.

MadameJosephine · 03/08/2013 19:17

Have you tried teletextholidays.com? I've had a couple of good last minute deals from here on the past

LondonSuperTrooper · 04/08/2013 15:40

Thanks ladies. I'll look into your suggestions. Really appreciate all of your suggestions x

Look outside of Europe, Bulgaria us probably cheapest option. In Europe go for Halkidiki or Northern Spain for best prices. Forget Balearics or Canaries - no cheap deals at all.

LondonSuperTrooper · 12/08/2013 16:20

English many thanks for the tips. I'll start googling now.
