Not too overcrowded (like Brighton & West Witterings) but not too far to get to either. Anyone willing to share any gems?

Westgate or West Bay, Kent, just before Margate and thankfully nothing like Margate. Takes just over an hour on the A2/M2 from Blackwall Tunnel.

dizzydo · 10/06/2006 17:03

Is it sandy KBear?

well, thats a lie actually, I can't see the beach, just the sea but I wanted to show off!

pupuce · 10/06/2006 17:04

Cambersands is sandy... near Rye.
Probably very busy!

Dh and ds1+2 are out, looking for crabs in the rock pools. I on the other hand would rather stick pins in my eyes that sit out in this weather.

LadyTophamHatt · 10/06/2006 17:26

Oh and swimming in it.....OMG you must be joking.
It's bloody freezing!!!

KBear · 10/06/2006 17:53

Dizzydo - yes, both are sandy beaches. Dog-free too in summer which is another plus!

foxinsocks · 10/06/2006 17:57

are you more in SW or SE london ?

CountessDracula · 10/06/2006 18:19

Another vote for Minnis Bay - it's where I grew up - now in Sheffield and would love to be on the beach in this weather.

dizzydo · 10/06/2006 22:04

oooh thanks for all your responses. Foxinsocks I am in South London (Wandsworth) but fairly accessible to most major routes out.

Well we went to Minnis Bay. Two hours door to door, nice fast road, (not too much traffic thanks to the footie I think Grin) and you were right it was absolutely fab! AND I swam in the sea (twice!!) it was warm too, promise.

Will try Mudeford sandspit next.

Thanks again everyone Smile

Another vote for Minnis Bay and we also like Joss Bay in Broadstairs, although I bet that was crowded :)
