Have a look at these - they are great and not that expensive (well for what they are!!)

Hello all - have a look at these - they are state run hotels in Spain and Portugal and there are some Chateaus in France too.

DP and I are going for a week in August and it is costing about £600 accomodation (that is all in bed and breakfast for the pair if us) and £33 each for the flights - they are so beautiful though and you can take children to quite a few of them apparently.

Can I just say
Big up the Paradors

They are absolutely luscious hotels, and postively welcome children

We have been twice, once with ds once for romantic break to 5 of them altogether. Do they still do the 5 night card on the website, it is an utter bargain, best hotels I have ever been to, and that's saying something

Go to a Parador and you won't regret it

I had my worst ever hangover in the Parador in Haro (Rioja). God I felt bad. It was after their fiesta and it was the day Hong Kong was handed back so we just lay in bed groaning and ordering room service all day, watching the HK handover on a loop on CNN.

It was lovely though. It rained and rained and rained.
