France - recommendations please!

Was hoping to find a holiday for the end of the summer holidays but flights for five are proving to be £1000+ Quite fancy trying France and drove to Disneyland Paris last Christmas from the North West surprisingly easily. Have never been to France (other than Paris) so don't know where to start!

So can anyone suggest an area/region or even better accommodation? Would really like a nice beach but nowhere packed. Defo want a pool and some guaranteed sunshine! Any ideas? :)

Poitou Charentes region. Ile de Re, ile d'oleron, la Rochelle - all 440 miles or thereabouts from Calais. So doable in a day and saving on overnight stopsin France. Dependening on your car and fuel efficiency etc tunnel could be £200, fuel £150, tolls £100 - all very approximate.

Or maybe further south towards Bordeaux.

Try websites like booking.com, Expedia for hotels.
