Been to Vanuatu, stunning place and as french colony, fab food. Not overly done on the tourist stuff like some of the others.

Went twice to Tahiti but for only few nights because I much rather go to the surrounded Islands... Not so touristic! Moorea, only 30 mns away by boat from Tahiti.. it is a beautiful Island, very calm, only one road wich goes around it. Raiatea, perfect for cave diving. Tahaa, the vanilla island, this is my favourite island in the pacific. Tahiti is the main tourist arrival and so I think that any islands around it are incredibly beautiful!!!!

Where do you leave RTKangaMummy... Sorry quite new to MumsNet.

sunandmoon · 08/06/2006 13:30

Sorry where do you LIVE????

Pruni · 08/06/2006 13:34

Aaaah RTKM I dream of the pacific islands...
Once half-planned a trip to the Cook Islands but needed more cash Shock
I read Paul Theroux's "The Happy Isles of Oceania" in preparation (where he canoes round various islands slagging off the locals, the incomers, and anyone who happens to be passing) but he's a twat so my advice is do not read it!!!!
I also knew a woman from Tahiti, who much preferred Moorea.

katierocket · 08/06/2006 13:35

Yes I've been to
Raratonga and Moorea (sp?) which is actually french polynesia but still.

It was about 15 years ago though Shock
They are beautiful. gorgesous places but I'd advise going to the smaller ones that aren't as 'spoilt'. You lucky thing you. Envy

We went to Moorea and BoraBora for honeymoon - just passed through Taihiti. Agree about going to the smaller, less spoilt islands. Although BoraBora was beautiful I was stunned at how much rubbish was just left in heaps, hotels left fallen down etc.

Oh so you are not far, I am in West London too in Acton. So anything is paradise...
I totally agree with LizP, I was shocked by how much rubbish were left in Tahiti... The flowers of paradise have been replaced by plastic bags and cansAngry. But the climate and the colour of the sea make you forget the horrors left by humans...
We love travelling here too so we are waiting for DD to be few years older before we can take her in our long trips... CAAAAANNNNN'TT WAITSmile
