I've got \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1860119956/qid=1149707266/sr=8-3/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i3_xgl/026-4832246-9023614\Take The Kids Paris} - is that the sort of thing you mean?

Ours is from 2003, but it's probably just the prices that are out of date. If you want it you're welcome to it: let me know and I'll post it to you Grin

nowanearlyNicemum · 07/06/2006 20:19

presume you're hoping to do more than hit Eurodisney then?!
how old is ds?

roisin · 07/06/2006 20:24

I've just been and rescued our book from the shelf, and it had out 4-day itinerary in it. I'm exhausted just reading it! Dss were 5 and 7 at the time - do you want to hear it?

LadyCodofCOdford · 07/06/2006 21:16

oh yes please

will make it worht yer while

Is that a yes to the intinerary or for me to send you the book?!

DAY 1
am and lunch - Musee d'Orsay
pm Catacombs (We didn't do this - dss wimped out, but I can't remember what we did instead!)
later Jardin du Luxembourg

DAY 2 [brace yourself - got one of those carte musees et monuments so we could go in everything]
Arc de Triomphe
Louvre
Conciergerie
Sainte Chapelle
Notre Dame
Musee de Monnaies
Centre Pompidou
(we were obviously slacking and didn't make it to Carnavelet!)

DAY 3
am Boat trip - Canauxrama from Port de l'Arsenal to Bassin de la Villete [Fantastic - highly recommended - huge underground tunnel under the Place de la Bastille, then up 4 huge double locks. Great trip - much more fun for kids than a cruise on the Seine.] Sorry, I digress.
pm Sacre Coeur/Montmartre [At some point ds1 had a tantrum and we retired to the hotel, but I can't remember what it was we'd promised to do that he missed out on as a consequence]

DAY 4 Eiffel Tower [This was the big carrot all week - if they were good ...] But ds2 took one look at it and refused to go up!
My itinerary then has the Sewers on, but the boys didn't fancy that either - and we were all quite tired by then for some reason Grin

nowanearlyNicemum · 08/06/2006 11:54

well you've got stamina, is all I can say!!
cod, if you want restaurant ideas give me a shout - I'm full of them :)

franca70 · 08/06/2006 13:58

the time out guide has a chapter with what to do with kids. I'd suggest the Jardins du luxembourg, the parc de la villette and the Centre Pompidou.

LadyCodofCOdford · 08/06/2006 16:19

no cna t poss do all thta
what wer eth ehighlights r?

OP posts:
roisin · 08/06/2006 17:01
Grin Our definite highlight was the \link{http://www.canauxrama.com/saint-martin.htm\Canauxrama cruise} (Has your ds1 read \link{http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0141317264/qid=1149782337/sr=8-4/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i4_xgl/026-4832246-9023614\Lionboy?)} as this canal is mentioned in the book.

I particularly enjoyed the Musee D'Orsay, and the boys particularly liked the Jardins du Luxembourg.

I just asked ds1 (7 at the time) and he said the Eiffel Tower, crepes, and the restaurant at our hotel!

LadyCodofCOdford · 08/06/2006 17:24

LadyCodofCOdford · 08/06/2006 17:43

OP posts:
LadyCodofCOdford · 08/06/2006 17:43

arc de tri,phe i presume

OP posts:
roisin · 08/06/2006 18:26

Oh aye, Arc de Triomphe - that will be it. The boys enjoyed that too.

I don't what sort of a morning person you are, but it makes sense to get there early as the crowds/queues really build up.

Depending on what you plan to do, it may make sense to get a \link{http://www.parismuseumpass.fr/flash/hp_fr.html\Carte Musee et Monuments*}. As well as covering the entry fees (for you - ds mostly free), it also means you can jump the queues: which dss particularly enjoyed!

At Arc de Triomphe you still need to queue up and get a 'free ticket' for ds. (We didn't realise this - having queued and bought our Cartes Musee there - and had to go back, but we barged to the front of the queue in a very un-English fashion!)

*Bleurgh... Just found out it's been re-named: "The Paris Museum Pass" ... Yuck! Sad
I'm really disappointed: I thought they were insufferably proud of their language?!

roisin · 08/06/2006 18:26

So do you want me to send you this book then or what?

LadyCodofCOdford · 08/06/2006 19:04

blimey Roisin, I lived in Paris for 7 years in total and still didn't manage to do some of the things on your list. :o
have a great time Cod, when are you off?

sunnydelight · 13/06/2006 13:34

When are you going Cod?, because if it is August "Paris Plage" will be up and running - they shut down the really busy road beside the Seine and turn it into a beach with all sorts of great things to do. We took our three for a couple of days last year and it was brilliant (then 12,6 and2). I'm not big on organised activity - there is so much to see in Paris just wandering around. We ended up watching jugglers and fire eaters in front of Notre Dame at midnight and listening to music in various parks. Don't know how old your son is, but the playground beside Les Halles is amazing (I think it's suitable from about 5-12). Adults aren't allowed in - you pay about 2 euro for access for an hour (supervised of course). We also got tickets for the water bus which made it easy to get round without going underground which my kids hate - you can do most of the main attractions this way.

Cod · 13/06/2006 13:46
