We have one night to stay somewhere en route between London and Dorset...any suggestions?

Why do you need to stay over. London to Dorset is doable in a couple of hours. Winchester is pretty as is Guildford.

Okay that makes sense. Are you driving or training? Anywhere on the south coast is a good stop. Bournemouth? The new forest?

Winchester for a town and cathedral or new forest for pretty walks or Peppa pig world if you have small children and are nuts ;-)

Winchester is a lovely city, if you want a smaller town New Alresford is pretty, both have nice river walks.

Winchester or maybe slight detour to Portsmouth - see the Mary Rose, HMS Victory etc , go shopping at the outlet place and have dinner in one of the waterside restaurants. There 's a Premier Inn there.

Which end of Dorset i.e ... which corridor out of London?
Sherborne is beautiful, if using A303
Winchester if heading straight down the motorway
Central Salisbury if you are dropping to the A354

Oooooh Winchester sounds good...happy memories of fish n chips there years ago!!!!

But Mary Rose...kids would love that

Peppa Pig world...I know even my 8yo would like that!!!

Argh...spoilt for choice...I think I'll work with Winchester...thanks all!!

My DCS (9 and 7) like a day out in Winchester, there's a nice play area close to the centre and near the river, you can walk along the river, explore the cathedral close, lots of pubs, restaurants, cafes etc. The City Mill is interesting too, its a NT property, restored water mill.
