Hi

Could anyone recommend a good, child friendly hotel in Cape Town? Ideally near good publc transport and perhaps near beaches. Also, how about child friendly safaris, whilst we are on holiday in Cape Town in a couple of weeks (with a 4 1/2 year old).
Thanks

Have you been before ?? If not I can recommend some AMAZING restaurants.

We stayed at the Protea Presidet here . They have a great buffet breakfast & good poolside food & drink .You can see the sea from the pool which is an infinity one so it looks like it merges into it.they have special rooms on the hugher floors with small kitchens and it is good for Kids.
You are about 10 mins from camps bay beach area here which is wonderful & 10 mins on the other side to The V&A waterfront shopping mall & restaurant complex.
I am not sure on the Safari's though.Only got as far as Stelenbosch & that area.

Gomo Gomo Game Lodge, which shares an unfenced boundary with the Kruger, welcomes children of all ages - fairly inexpensive for safari lodges to - between £65-£90 full board per night including game drives.
See elephant, buffalo and high chance of leopard spotting.

I would recommend hiring a car in Cape Town rather than rely on public transport (if there is any). It would give you a lot more flexibility. Otherwise staying near the V&A would be good, because there are plenty of restaurants and shops (plus sights like the aquarium) to walk to. I don't think most safari parks would allow a 4 1/2 year-old to go on a game drive, but self-drive parks should be fine. You might prefer to avoid malarial areas too. Shamwari and the Addo Elephant park might be suitable, but are about a day's drive from Cape Town or a short flight away. I love Cape Town but haven't been there with kids (my last trip was when I was 6 months pregnant). Have a great time!

Look out for companies that specialise in children's safaris. A few exist and are specifically aimed at little children and how to get the best out of safaris for them.

Not done safari in South Africa but in Kenya we had to do a lot of travelling on nightmare roads - not suitable for children at all. Look out for things like that too.
