Long distance Taxi - Ipswich to Plymouth

I am looking at options to transport my 89 year old grandfather from his home in Ipswich to my home in Plymouth, for a short visit. He can not drive all the way and I find that with work commitments, I am not getting to see him as often as I wish. It is 5 1/2+ hours each way.

I was wondering if anyone knows a company that may bring him down and then take him back again about 4 days later. To be honest, I could do one way, so just one day would be an option.

I have googled long distance taxi and sent some emails - but they are not forthcoming. Any help gratefully received.

Many thanks

Could the coach be an option? Am assuming he'd be fit enough if he can still drive somewhat. Would be much cheaper and he might have more company.

Thanks both

His driving is really only to the local shop and back, occasionally the doctor - that is another story!

He gets very flustered outside his comfort zone, and organising himself to get on a bus really would be beyond him. He caught the train to see me in London about 6 years ago and I lost him at Liverpool Street station - I could not do that again. It would have to be door to door and something that I could organise.

Many thanks

Have you looked at companies that do airport runs? They might be more amenable to doing long distance drives or they might do half the trip and you could meet him near Gatwick or Heathrow.

I used JRtravel to take me and dd/friends to the O2 and back again. Very friendly service. I can't do links, sorry.
