Fresh out of ideas as don't normally go abroad mid summer. Not too hot (mid 20s), pool/lake, good food, relatively quiet and avoiding the obvious hotspots for British tourists. dc 11 & 15 but happy in their own company if needs be. Mid budget. Any ideas please ?

We've had several holidays at resorts on Lake Garda and loved it every time. The lake itself and surrounding area is beautiful, plus Venice and Verona are accessible for day trips. Mid-summer temperatures are pleasant, not too hot. Loads of lakeside hotels and campsites (Crystal Lakes & Mountains do packages there). Highly recommended!

Pyrennes are lovely this time of year - around Luz St Saveur - Canvas do a site there (I think). Stunning scenery, lovely food, fresh water lakes, architecture, history, etc...

We went to lake Garda a few years ago and it was very busy mid August , hot (30s) but lovely ! Thinking of an alpine lake now but flights midweek proving tricky, nothing direct to Salzburg. Not considered the Pyrenees so will have a look.

Hi, we went to Andalo in Dolomites Italy, about 1 hour north of Garda. Absolutely wonderful, great time to see all the hills in the summer and not too busy. Lake Molveno is nearby with beach, restaurants etc. Stayed at Apartment Angelina (www.dolomiteapartment.com) owners were flexible on arrival dates. Good luck

Hotel Jodquellenhof, Bad Tolz, an hour south of Munich. Gives you free admission to a great water park, also near Dietramszell lake and the Funf See Land, easy to manage without hire car as the transport round there is so good.
