Holiday suggestions wanted

Lovely Mother-Out-Law has said she will treat us to a holiday, so wondering where to go. There's me, 8YO DS and his dad and we want somewhere that has:

A beach and sunshine
Nice food/bars
Swimming pool
Kid-friendly
Wi-Fi
Something interesting in the way of trains or transport

Oh and not long-haul. Europe or the UK really.

You could go to the South of France on the train? There's the little train that runs from Nice to Digne for a day out?

Cascais near Lisbon. 30 mins to Lisbon on the train, trams and funiculas galore.

Thanks. I think we have actually decided on the Bay of Naples as DS was hugely excited to find out that Pompeii (which he knows about from Dr Who) is a real place that he can go and see. And the whole area is apparently hopping with trains and trams.

Don't go in August planning to do lots of sightseeing in Pompeii. It is really hot - do a bit at a time and get a beach hotel/villa or one with a pool.
You won't believe how big the lemons are!
