First Holiday in 15 years and DP's first ever time out of the UK

I haven't had a holiday in 15 years and DP has never been abroad. We're just about to hit thirty and we're getting married next month. Sometime in the next twelve months we will have a honeymoon, and due to our lack of travel experience we have no idea where to go!

All suggestions and experiences welcome. Our budget is 3k including spending money. We want: Quiet, disability friendly, culture, sun, beach and as few children around as possible.

Do you need wheelchair accessible or just something that's on one level / large shower rather than bath?

My mother uses a wheelchair and I think parents have found suitable accommodation via a website for disabled travellers so maybe worth googling that?

Will have a look, he doesn't use a wheelchair but that's pure stubbornness rather than need. Takes about 10 seconds to walk two metres.

I need somewhere with no stairs or a ground floor room guaranteed and somewhere I can call a taxi from every day to take us out without it eating our entire holiday budget.

I'm worried as we want quiet but would like to be able to see the sights without major travel. I would forgo beach and sun, for somewhere relaxing and accessible sights.

I can't really help with beach ideas, we always end up in the middle of nowhere in France but hope you manage to find something suitable

If you go outside the UK school summer holidays (usually 3rd week in July to 1st week of September) then you will guarantee less children around.

For sun and culture I would suggest southern Spain (Seville and environs), or Greece. Both will be lovely in May and June. Italy is great but the beaches aren't wonderful.

I should think there are many thousands of holidays that might suit but I guess your first port of call would be to try and find a website that specialises in travel for people with limited mobility.

I don't mind giving up the beach (I do love a swim in the ocean though) for sun and culture which is accessible.

We found a trip to Iceland (no sun but the chance of Northern Lights) in October which is a tour so all transport included, and DP has his eye on Rome but all I can think of is cobbled streets, steps and scary taxi drivers!

DS is staying home for this one (we're having a camping trip with him in the hols) so we will take advantage of being able to go out of season.
