Luxury hotel in South East for 1 night

Dh and I are have managed to get 1 night away this summer. He works away most of the time so we rarely see each on our own. He also stays in hotels a lot and is very particular- so it needs to be really special. We're in South East and don't want to travel far. Any suggestions?

One Aldwych
The Haymarket / Covent Garden
Claridges

Are all fabulous in London. Or Barnsley House in The Cotswolds.

I've stayed in a couple of 'The Elite' hotels. I think there are four in the south east altogether and enjoyed them. Great service and really nice rooms if you book a suite. They are traditional type hotels so could make a change for your DH.

Thanks - some good suggestions. I should have said we prefer not London as we both spend quite a lot of time there for work and Cotswolds is a bit too far I think (we're right in SE corner).

I like the Elite hotels too - but 2 are full on that night (or have minimum stay policies) one is just a bit too close to home and one is probably a bit too far.

Not sure why it is so difficult!

The Grove, Herts.

DH and I try to escape every couple of months to pennyhill Park. You need to book a room in the main building itself rather than the bedroom blocks, and you need a package that includes dinner at the 2* Michelin restaurant. Its not perfect but it's ability to turn you from uber-stressed to horizontally chilled in the blink of an eye is what does it for us.

The Swan at Lavenham is rather nice.

Thanks everyone. Some really good ideas - just need to make a decision!
