Holiday tips wanted for trip to France (hot weather ) with baby and toddler

We're off on holiday to France in a couple of weeks with DD's aged 20 months and 5 months. Apart from the obvious (e.g. sun hats, SPF cream, aftersun etc) what things should take on hol with us for the girls (hot hot hot weather at the mo where we're going).

Also any inspired ways of keeping kids entertained on flights etc?

In fact, any holiday tips very welcome!

You can pretty much get everything you need in France.

One thing that might be an issue is milk. If you are bottlefeeding either of them, you might want to take individual packs of what you use.

I'm sure someone here will give you the best up to date advice, but one thing I remember from a trip to France...DS1 gave up breastfeeding at around 18 months (next pregnancy), but was still very dependent on milk. We didn't think that would be a problem, but it was so hard to keep milk cold where we were, when we were on the road (we couldn't find ice anywhere for our cooler). We ended up buy 1L packs of UHT, and letting him drink what he wanted and chucking the rest. In retrospect, we should have brought SMA Progress in 8oz servings.

Agree with scienceteacher - getting fresh milk for toddlers in hotter parts of France can be a bit hit and miss. Some bigger supermarkets do not just 1l packs of UHT but also multi-packs of smaller cartons - if you happen to see these, snap them up as they will save you wasting milk.
The flight might well be OK, at least it will be short-ish. Our toddler was kept entertained by the in-flight "meal" for much of it, plus some ice cubes in a plastic cup.
You can buy triangular pencils in Woolies. Don't laugh at this micro-detail, but if dropped on the plane...they won't roll under the seat!
Everything else you can get easily in France, plus the usual extra of friendly interest in your small children and a real willingness to make families welcome at most restaurants and cafes :)
One thing though - make sure you have a good big change mat for your toddler. For such a family friendly nation their approach to providing change facilities is pretty hit and miss and you may spend some time kneeling on toilet floors...
