Stopover from Oz

We're going to Australia later this year and plan a stopover on the way home. It has to be on the way home due to school holidays and various plans in Oz.

Singapore airlines is coming up cheaper than Cathay but I was keen to stopover in HK rather than Singapore for 2/3 nights. I haven't been to either but HK sounds more interesting.

Anyone got any thoughts? Our children will be 11,8 and 7.

They are both interesting, but Singapore is less crowded, cleaner, quicker transfer into the centre and has a predictable climate (always hot and humid!). Loads to do and see in both.

HK goes from hot and humid to chill and damp so check a climate chart.

Singapore is great. You can take them to the night safari, sentosa as well as enjoy hustle and bustle in china town and little India.

Granted HK is great too and you will have plenty to do there too. I guess it depends on how much money you want to save on the flights?

Singapore airlines are also very good to fly with.

I love HK. You also have ocean park which the DC will like but it is bonkers busy. What is the difference in flights?

I have same dilemma have been to both and wanted to take kids to Hong Kong it's just so not like any other place on earth. Singapore is good but it's just a city like any other, Santosa island is good though.
I'd go for Hong Kong it's amazing.

We did both- hk on way out and Singapore on return. We hated hk- dirty, hot and couldn't put our fingers on it but just didn't like it (we are city people as well- loved Tokyo, Paris etc). Singapore was wonderful- clean, safe and just great!

Or- could you do both? We flew with qantas and did hk on way out and singapore on return. Flew with them to Nz as well and stopped at Bangkok (fab!) and Toyko (also fab) as well. We booked through trailfinders.

We will stop with Singapore next time we go to oz. I really like Singapore airlines and having done the brief city tour last time we'd like to spend more time there. very clean, family friendly, geared up to stopovers.

I find working out the time differences challenging for some reason. I'd like to have a couple of days there but I will also need sleep!

Last time we arrived at the airport we used their roof top swimming pool. Lovely, but we hadn't slept in over 24 hours and were exhausted!
