URGENT- PLACES TO VISIT IN INDIA

Wonder if anyone is around to help?
My son is in India and is tagging a short break onto a work trip- he has just arrived in Goa but it's all shut up, as monsoon season is due. So he needs a quick change of plan.

He is looking to move on somewhere but not sure where- anyone got any ideas, bearing in mind he is on a limited budget, and not too far from where he is now, ideally, and somewhere that has some tourist life at this time of year.

can he go inland to Hampi? well worth a visit, but not sure how monsoon would affec t it

Kerala is the next door state to Goa and is fabulous - but as its on the coast it may also be affected by monsoon.

Or he could head inland across the Western Ghats to Madurai in Tamil Nadu which has one of the most amazing Hindu temples in the world.

Tamilnadu and other neighbouring areas should not have monsoons at the moment and there is a little ex-french colony, called Pondicherry, which is a coastal town and very warm and friendly to tourists and quite economical as well.

It is a long way from Goa to Tamilnadu.
How long has he got?
Ajanta and elephanta ellora caves are fantastic.
Ajanta caves are 2000 years old, fantastic
Ellora temple was built by craftsmen from Tamilnadu and is similar to temples found there.
Give me more information, may be able to help

If he can get an overnight train straight down there (think you can) he could go to Kochi (Cochin). Brilliant, crazy place.
