We have just booked a fortnight in florida for me DH and DD who will be 9 months. It has just dawned on me we will be there on our first anniversary. Can anyone recommend a special treat for that day? I don't mind what it is just want something memorable. We will have our DD with us so needs to be something we can do with her.

I will check back later for any ideas.
Thanks in advance

What area in Florida are you going to? Might help narrow down your search.

melsy · 24/05/2006 18:00

yes were abouts are you going , as I have a wonderful place in Miami with amazing food. Been going there since I was a little girl , but still has good reviews.

Captiva Island amazing place to visit and lots of restaurants.

LIZS · 24/05/2006 18:45

Agree with Captiva Island, although it may have changed a bit since we went before all the bad hurricanes, and there was a restaurant only accessible by boat and decorated with dollar bills iirc.

Gloworm · 24/05/2006 18:57

where are you going....florida is massive Grin

my parents go to florida a lot and i can ask them...need to know roughly what part you are going to though.

they have gone on a 3-day cruise to the bahamas/carribean, fairly cheap if you browse and book before you go.

Something really memorable from our trip there was a lovely day out to daytona beach - ds had his first dip in the sea and played in the sand and then we drove along the beach at sunset in a convertible - mmmm bliss.

Gloworm · 24/05/2006 19:03

oh yes, datoyna beach is great, ds was 12mths and loved it.
we stayed at a great child friendly place called "perrys" right on the beach.

lou33 · 24/05/2006 19:12

i have a friend who lives in daytona beach, let me ask him and get back to you

lou33 · 24/05/2006 19:18

he says

"Well the obvious choices are disney, epcot, universal studios, etc. Probably for them with the youngin, epcot or disney would be my choice."

but he wants to know whereabouts you will be so he can give you more detailed info

kiskidee · 24/05/2006 19:32

lou33 · 24/05/2006 19:34

he also says

"Daytona IS nice, however nothing like Orlando or Miami is. There isnt alot here in Daytona, Daytona is geared more towards it's nightlife, for younger people, younger couples, and party people.."

dyzzidi · 24/05/2006 19:39

Sorry I should have been more clear. We have a villa in the orlando area. We fly out on 4 sept and wedding anniversary is on 7th sept. we were thinking of travelling south to St petersburg beachs or Miami or even Daytona overnight maybe later in the holiday. I really need to celebrate in Orlando as travelling again so soon after long haul flight might be too much for little one.

Sanibel and Captiva--very romantic

sunchowder · 24/05/2006 19:46

Longboat Key if you have to stay closer to Orlando.

sunchowder · 24/05/2006 19:46

You can get a boat that takes you to Cabbage Key from Sanibel and Captiva.....I love it down there.

lou33 · 24/05/2006 20:19

now he says this

Yes, tell her to celebrate in Orlando at either Disney world or Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc.. here, give her this link too..

disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/index?bhcp=1

They can plan any and everything right from there.

SoupDragon · 24/05/2006 20:49

Sanibel is lovely.... :)

dyzzidi · 24/05/2006 21:21

Just an update really DH has asked me if i want to swim with the Dolphins at discovery cove on our anniversary. He wants to look after DD and watch me do it (he doesn't fancy doing it himself) DD will be 9 months so we can all swim with the rays and tropical fish so it should be a special day for all of us.

He then want to eat at a nice restaurant in the evening and go back to the Villa for some champagne.

Thankyou for your recommendations.
