Beaches in the Algarve

Anyone got any tips for family friendly beaches on the Algarve? We're staying on the Western end of the Algarve and it's pretty windy, so not very conducive to taking the DC to the beach.

Can anyone recommend a sheltered, family friendly beach up to 45 mins east of Sagres? faro is nearly 90
mins away from here so too far, though I know it'll be warmer and less windy down there.

TIA

Just going to move this to travel at the request of the OP.

Praia dona ana in Lagos is sheltered and absolutely beautiful. One of my favourite beaches anywhere.
Luz is very family friendly but not as sheltered - much easier to find and closer to sagres though.

Thanks so much Snow. We've been to Lagos marina today and it was freezing there too, so I'm starting to thing we've just got rubbish weather this week!

Are you anywhere near Olhos d'agua? Brilliant fishing village with sandy coves. And lovely local restaurants. Passarao azul is just gorgeous. We stayed at the Sheraton, which we hated, and made the trek to Olhos most days. Know what you mean about the wind. The Sheraton's pools were icy, even in mid August. Enjoy your trip!

Luz is gorgeous. We went out of season and had the beach pretty much to ourselves.

We're between Raposiera, budens and Vila de Bispo and we generally spend a lot of time on Salema beach but it's blowing a gale today!

There's a nice walk between luz and burgau if the beach is cold.

By any chance do you know if it's buggy friendly? DS is only 19 months, so not quite able for long walks yet.

Hmmm, it would probably be quite tricky in parts with a buggy - it's not particularly hilly and generally wide but there are narrow sections and is fairly bumpy / stony. There is a good playground on the beach in Luz.

Thank you!

Oh dear I just got back from western Spain & they seem to be having awful weather across the whole area. I love burgau, lovely beach bar. Ditto zavial but that's windier. Salema used to be lovely too. I love that area. We holiday there often so am Envy even if weather is bad.

if the weathers bad & you have a car I enjoyed a trip to Silves on market day. It's about 45 mins easy. There's other great day trips inland to pretty villages but I can't remember where apart from Silves. I can go & look see for you?

Treat yourself to meal at Fortaleza da Luz, lovely food & fantastic setting in old fortress.
