Lefkas or Zakynthos next year with 4yr old? Advice pls

Hello, we're thinking of taking our 4yr old DS to either Lefkas or Zakynthos next year-but we haven't been to either before.
Does anyone have experience of either and could you recommend a decent travel agent/villa company to contact for them?
We're more concerned with there being other kiddies and families in the vicinity than babysitting services or creches (at the moment).

TIA

Have you tried Simply Travel? Their place in Lefkas (Mousses) is great, they also have a Zakynthos place. Both have creches but you don't need to use them

If you are going in peak summer season, i would stay away from Laganas in Zakynthos as it is very much 18-30s and a bit mad. I was there pre dd, but wouldn't be too keen on going back with her.

I've been to Lefkas (Nidri) the beach was rubbish, pebbly so I would opt for Zakynthos. I love Greece Grin

Sorry for hijack, bubblerock, is it you that stays in blackpool?

bubblerock · 24/05/2006 12:55

Hi Aimsmum, I live in Blackpool, can I help? Smile

I would opt for Zakynthos. Lefkas, the beaches are not so good, and it can be windy! I think they hold the wind surfing championships in Nidri which is not good.

Zakynthos is lovely, but as Aimsmum says stay clear of Laganas.

The first time I went to Laganas was in 1986 - me and my boyfriend (now ex. husband). Very very uncommercialised. Only one bar and one pizza place in the high street.

A friend of mine was last year and it was a bit like (the bad parts) of Ayia Napa or Magalluf was in the 1980s.

My ex. husband took our 3 children to Zakynthos 3 years ago (they were then 10, 6 and 18 months). Stayed in the Louis Palace hotel in Vasilikos (I think) and everyone had a wonderful time.

I haven't been in any I'm afraid so can't 'recommend' any but \link{http://www.blackpool-hotels.co.uk/havelockcourtholidayflats.html\these} are not far from us (central) and there are some on our road owned by a guy called Rob (01253 621353) - Astorina Holiday apartments

Sorry I can't help more Smile

I am going to Zante in August (Grin). I am going to Kalamaki which has a lovely beach and is apparently very family friendly (i have no kids but wanted a peaceful holiday). I also considered Tsilivi and Alykes as resorts and they seemed v.nice. I went to Zante 6 years ago and it is very nice and away from Laganas quite relaxing.

I have stayed at Louis Palace in Vaskillios, it was very very nice but it is quite isolated (although this was a while ago) the nearest bar and shop were 20 minutes away. No little shopping/restaurant strip to speak of. Pretty beach though.

I found Thomas Cook to have the best prices and nicest accommodation.

Thanks very much for your help Bubblerock, have contacted them Smile

rabbitrabbit, dh and i went to Zakynthos summer 2002 (but w/o dd as we were told it wasn't child-friendly but it is!!)
It may have changed in the past 4 yrs, but we stayed in Roseland Hotel in kalamaki resort which was family run and very clean. Pool and paddling one all suitable for kids, some swings etc.
kalamaki beach has turtles certain times of year, but i didn't see any
there was a free bus to take you to vassilikos which was remote but lovely beach
took short taxi ride to zante town centre which was nice but would agree to avoid laganas

mythumbelinas · 24/05/2006 16:44
