October holiday - looking for some winter sun - where to go?

We are hoping to get away for up to a week in October half term. Not wanting to spend loads though as have other expenses this year.

Fancy some winter sun, so not in UK.

Will probably try and get a cheap flight from either Manchester or Doncaster.

Looking for self catering. Somewhere not too overtly touristy - don't want to be eating English food all week for example. Not bothered about cchildren's clubs, etc although family things to do would be great.

Any ideas?

No idea yet. Will find out term dates, I hope, when we go to visit the school again on 5 June. Just doing some prep work as we know we would like to go away.

hula it's a pity you're not keen on Turkey because we had a gorgeous week in Olu Deniz in October 1998. This was the one and only year we have ever been able to afford 2 foreign holidays and it was lovely.

ive been to turkey and found it the most friendliest place ive been. most shopkeepers invited you in for lemon tea not to make you buy something like ive found in other places but just because they are being nice. loved it.

Tunisia lovely in October, going for the third time this year. Been to Menorca at same time but weather a bit unreliable. Other thing to consider is that many pools are not heated and are really cold then- we couldn't go in the pools in Menorca as they were freezing, it was torture for the kids to look at them but not get in. Dd went in once and that was enough- the sea was warmer.
