Anyone been with little kids to the Greek Dodecanese islands?

We are planning a week in Greece at the end of May, two families with 2 two year olds and 2 babies. Liked the look of Karpathos. Anyone been and how child friendly is it? We will be travelling independantly and on a budget (flying into Kos or Rhodes and getting a ferry out to an island) so would like to know how easy it is. Have always travelled like this but not yet with children. Are we mad?

we went with our oldest son then 10 months(now 12) and another family with a 2 year old. We flew into Kos and then 2 hour boat journey to Leros. It was fine as the greeks adore children. On one boat journey it got a bit windy and they were very concerned about my son and phoned ahead for a taxi. The people in the tavernas made a big fuss of him and would carry him around while we ate. he slept better than he had ever done.Go for it!
