Recommendations on areas to stay nr. Avignon?

I'm thinking of getting the Eurostar service to Avignon this summer, but need some help on where to stay once we're in the South of France. We'd hire a car, but wouldn't want to have to drive for more than, say, 2 hours as we'll have an 18 month old DD with us. Any suggestions on areas?

Gordes is a beautiful hill top town going east.

Or towards Perpignan, Collioure etc going west.

Or towards the south - Bandol for instance.

Up in the Cevennes is stunningly beautiful.

We stayed at L'Elzet gites. Incredibly lovely, but they are quite remote so depends what you are looking for.

Camping val de Cantobre near Nant.
Hire a chalet, pool, river etc and beautiful.
I worked there as a teenager years ago!

Just a point to note - check which Avignon station your train will arrive at, before booking hire car. When we did similar (rented a villa near Gordes) the Eurostar used the main station, not the TGV station and the drivers had to get a taxi to the car hire place
