Madrid this weekend (just dh and I); any ideas

Treating Dh to a w/end in Madrid from this Fri till Mon. Have never been and have no clue what to do. I q like art galleries, dh can tolerate them for half an hour then he has to be parked.

We like wandering around, stopping at street cafes for a glass of wine/tapas etc but other than that, are there any "must see" things to do?

Prado is a must www.museodelprado.es/en here, also here for Picasso's Guernica (personally not impressed with the rest of it) - both have free entry on some days

Parque del retiro is excellent for walking and has a nice pond for sitting next to and people watching

There is a cable car worth a ride, although the restaurant at the end is crap

Remember to eat late, most people don't start until after 10, avoid the tourist restaurants as although pleasant are expensive and don't try to be vegetarian.

Thank you carol, the park sounds nice, as does the cable car. I may have to park DH in a pavement cafe while I go to look at some art!
