We (DH, DS (3yo) & DS (1yo) have to go to a wedding in May in Plauen, Germany. DH is the best man, so there is no getting out of it.

We looked up flights last night and it would cost about £750 for the 4 of us to fly to Munich and then a 3 hour hire car journey from there. Bit shocked by the cost (especially as we'll only be there for a long weekend) and need to try some alternatives.

Anyone have any advice/knowledge about getting there by train instead? Or other ideas? eg teleporter

Try this site. I travelled to Vienna by train using the info on here.

you could fly to leipzig/halle (ryanair) which is much closer to plauen than munich.
train is probably even more expensive, eurostar etc... but you could get there via brussels/cologne.
if it is only for a short time only handluggage should be fine.

German Railways

Go on here . I've entered a search for you. You can get from Munich Hauptbahnhof (main station) to Plauen in 6 hours on a regular train or in 3 hours 20 minutes on the fast train (ICE).

Let me know if you need help translating anything on there.
