Turkey - too hot in August?

Has anyone had any experience of holidaying in Turkey in August? Is it unbearably hot? Do different regions differ in temperature/humidity?

It's hot! If you're going then then you need to be on a beach/pool holiday - it's not weather for walking around and sightseeing! If you're a bit of a sun junkie then you'll be fine but if not then I would avoid.

Yes. Unless you're pretty hardcore then it's too hot to sunbathe but also not pleasant for doing stuff either.

I have been a couple of times and it tends to be: 5 mins sunbathing, 10 mins pool, 5 mins sunbathing, 10 mins pool etc!

We went a few years ago and tbh I found it unbearable. Mind you, we went to Lykia World, which iirc is in a kind of valley (although on a beach), so it may have made the humidity worse. But that was the worst thing- the humidity. Just a gentle amble to the restaurant was enough to leave me sweaty.

We're going in Aug with dd who is 3. We went to Kos last year and it was fine. Just sunbathe early or late on and play in shade rest of day, or lie under umbrella.

My friend is Turkish and had a house near Antalya for years. Now with her DD I school and relying on Summer holidays she sold it as she went once in August and said it was awful.

The children could only go out in the ark morning or late afternoon and it wasn't fun stuck indoors when you have two DCs used to being outdoors all the time.

Thanks all, that destination off the list then

We had a lovely time when we went in august one year and I'm not great with heat/humidity. I survived and enjoyed it as we went 5 star, hotel was on the beach and had large pools, good aircon inside. Sightseeing during the day was impossible but we went out to the various towns at night which was very bearable. In September daytime sightseeing was fine.

My friend moved to Turkey over 10 years ago. She loives the heat and that was part of the attraction of Turkey. Even she finds August unbearable and usually comes back to the UK to escape it.

I have been in Turkey in August many times as I used ot live out there and we still go qute a bit as we are stuck with shcool holidays now.

Yes, it does get very hot (high 30s - 40 dgrees) but we are always fine. I suppose it depends on how weel you can cope in the heat.
