Long car journies

My two year old travels quite happily in the car for up to tow hours and I always make sure she doesn't sleep through activities and so on. At bedtime she goes down well but wakens about 1ish and will not settle back even in our bed, I've tried controlled crying but she is hysterical. She is normally a really good sleeper (12hours). I feel that we can't go away for the day or the weekend, it's just not worth it.....any tips?

Does she have any bedtime only special toys? Or just anything familiar around her when in a strange cot? I always surround my DD with her "bedtime" toys when we´re on holiday, don´t know if this is the reason she sleeps fine... Can imagine this is a nightmare; I have other problems with my DD, who doesn´t enjoy hoidays away at all...

It sounds like a great Idea, I'll give it a try, thanks.

Sorry, no suggestions, just support! We ended up letting dd2 sleep in her pushchair last year as it was the only way she would settle!
